Attributed to José Juan Aparicio Maya from evidence of handwriting and similar documents in the Tarascan language held by the John Carter Brown Library copy

The author was a Franciscan priest who was actively writing in Tarajero, Michoacán de Ocampo, Mexico in the late 1830's and 1850's. The manuscripts held by the John Carter Brown Library are dated between 1838 and 1853

Main text appears on leaves 1 recto-16 verso, followed by 2 leaves not in Aparicio Maya's handwriting but in a different hand referring to two joint owners of the manuscript named Santoro and Aguilar

Text composed in black ink with highlights and rubrics in red

Caption title page, leaf 1 recto, consists of a prayer beginning "Ô santissima cruz!" under a framed illustration of a cross
